Founder and Director of the Rose Namayanja Foundation (RNF), Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko has called on young people to break through barriers to become leaders.
Namayanja said this during an inaugural National Symposium for Youth in Politics at the Mestil Hotel in Nsambya. She urged young people to learn the core attributes of outstanding leadership, such as public speaking and goal setting.
“Regardless of political leanings, there should be something for young people to fight for rather than just sloganeering,” she said.
The RNF Founder noted that there is no age limit for leadership and urged young people not to limit themselves by thinking that they are too young or inexperienced. She urged them to not allow others to define who they are.
“Don’t mind what other people think about you,” she said. “It is about your confidence and the potential you have. So, if you want to be a leader anywhere, it is about confidence and self-esteem.”
Namayanja called on young people to embrace the idea that they can make their future by working hard and taking advantage of opportunities that come their way. She also urged them not to shy away from leadership positions because they may feel like they aren’t ready for them yet.
The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) organized the two-day symposium to amplify the voices of young people in pursuit of coordinated, coherent, and effective solutions to the barriers that hamper their effective participation.
