RNF engages farmers on best crop practices

The Rose Namayanja Foundation engaged Nakaseke District coffee farmers in an enrichment program in Kasangombe Nakaseke TC and Nakaseke Sub County.

The training held in partnership with BUCADEF and the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) was aimed at uplifting the economic standing of farmers through sensitization on best farm practices.

Speaking on behalf of the Rose Namayanja Foundation Director, Mr. Akim Akandonde, urged the training beneficiaries to hold the right attitude towards agriculture and love what they are doing if they are to fully benefit from the training.

Akandonde encouraged the farmers to work hard and maintain their gardens if they are to earn maximum output from their gardens. He thanked BUCADEF for the cordial relationship with enjoyed with R.N.F for the development of Nakaseke and further urged the district leaders to sensitize their community about the benefits of coffee growing.

“Love what you do, regular visits to easily identify problems with the gardens in their initials stages. Our mindset on coffee farming needs to be refocused. Coffee is an international cash crop with potential of uplifting Ugandans from poverty.” Akandonde said.

Mr. Muwanga Samuel Programme officer BUCADEF called up leaders in the training to monitor coffee seedlings and to make sure that they are planted. He called upon all participants to amplify their love for coffee growing, urging that, the love would enable them to eliminate all the problems they have towards coffee growing.

The regional coordinator for Uganda Coffee Development Authority Ms Najjuma Tracy thanked BUCADEF, RNF and all the participants for having come in such big Numbers.

She called on the locals to always hold appositive mindset towards coffee growing and to always device ways of better managing their gardens.

“We need to maintain starters right from the planting stages for our coffee to attract high prices on the international market. Observe the right gardening practices.” Mrs Najjuma said.
